The period 1989 - 1994:
Explosive use of workstations and PCs

End 1991, a cluster of workstations was acquired for software development based on Teamwork software. The main server for this configuration was a SUN 4/75s with 16 Mbyte memory and a 1.3 Gbyte SCSI-disk.

The number of UNIX workstations grew very fast in the early nineties:

At the same time, the number of PC's doubled in two years. Early 1993, we did a simple calculation. The number of keyboards (PCs, workstations, servers, terminals and so on) divided byy the number of people working at the Laboratory showed that we had over 2.5 keyboards per person. Partly, this was caused by old equipment staying around.
