The
diagram shows the listening equipment, the viewing equipment and the searchlight
mutually connected by the step system. The listening equipment transmitted
as discussed the values of chart angle and elevation first to the viewing
equipment (see photograph). This comprised two pairs of field glasses (for
day and night use respectively) of which the two angles were adjusted by
handwheels moving simultaneously a writing stylus on a recorder and transported
the chart angle and elevation by means of transmitters to the searchlight.
The recorder (see photograph) contained a number of chart angle-elevation
curves. The chart angle receiver is located centrally in the recorder and
the elevation receiver is positioned vertically above the latter. As the
search viewing equipment was correctly adjusted, chart angle and elevation
had to be read out on the receivers mounted on the right side of the searchlight.
