Ballistic measurement systems: image intensifier camera (1979)

Image intensifier camera (1979)

In 1977, the image intensifier camera project was commissioned by the Material Testing Department 1 (MBA1) of the Royal Netherlands Army. The research involved the use of an image intensifier as a camera shutter. According to the schematic representation, objective O projects an observed image on the front of image intensifier S, which presents the enhanced image on the back of S for 1 microsecond. This back is imaged on the film C by lens L. The shutter operation of 1 microsecond is triggered by an optical detection gate placed below the projectile’s trajectory.
