Computer history: the period between 1983 and 1986
The computer history between 1983 and 1986 was characterised by the replacement of the mainframe with a new operating system, the initial use of PCs and administrative automation, Ethernet (local area network) and the first step towards a unique integration of ICT services. The number of system crashes of the major systems dropped dramatically from a few times a day in the mid-1970s to once a month or couple of months (the IBM PCs were much more unstable):
