Since 1938, the laboratory has been working on countering sea and landmines, including counter Improvised Explosive Devices (counter-IED) activities:

• Landmine detection (1938 to 1941)
• Countering sea mines (1949 – )
  • MEINOPA (1968) and MEINOPA II (1980)
  • Operational PAP Simulator (1986 – 1992)
• Landmine detection testbed (1997 – 2001)  – under Former research facilities
